Deegawapiya Sacred Relics exposition in Matara
- The procession with Sacred Omniscient Relics of Deegawapiya Stupa and the Crest-Gem arrives Matara
The relics unearthed from the Deegawapiya site during the excavations were brought to the Gatabaru Raja Maha Viharaya, Akuressa today (Oct 31) to provide the devotees with an opportunity to pay their homage to the sacred relics and the Crest-Gem.
The Sacred Relics and the Crest Gem will remain at the Gatabaru Raja Maha Viharaya on November 01 and 02 for public veneration. Subsequently, the revered articles will be displayed at several Buddhist shrines covering the Matara area for public veneration during this rare exposition.
The Deegawapiya Stupa and the premises have been damaged due to various invasions in the past and therefore restoration works are currently underway to bring it back to its former glory. Hence, the devotees have the opportunity to support this meritorious act by making financial contributions to the restoration project while worshiping the Sacred Omniscient Relics and Crest Gem of the Deegawapiya Stupa.
Arrangements have been made for the exposition of these revered articles at the Matara Sacred Bodhiya premises on November 03, 04 and 05, at Weherahena Poorvarama Rajamaha Viharaya on 06, 07 and 08, at Devinuwara Parama Wichithrarama Rajamaha Viharaya on 09 and 10 and at Wewurukannala Budu Rajamaha Vehera premises on 11 and 12.
