Defence Secretary reviews progress of ‘Deegawapiya Stupa’ and ‘Neelagiri Maha Seya’ restoration projects
The Defence Secretary, the ‘Author of the Deegawapi Aruna Trust’ and ‘First Trustee’ General Kamal Gunaratne reviewed the progress of the restoration of Deegawapiya Stupa and Neelagiri Maha Seya chairing a meeting held at the Defence Ministry yesterday (Oct 26).
During the session, the progress of construction work, brick manufacturing process, labour contribution, financial allocation, administrative work and the monitoring process were discussed.
Further, directives were given to expedite the restoration process of the great Stupa as well as the construction work of Relics House, Alms Hall and the Pilgrims Rest of the Deegawapiya Raja Maha Vihara precinct.
Chief Prelate of Deegawapiya Temple Ven. Mahaoya Sobhitha Thero and Chief Prelate of Sri Sambodhi Viharaya and President of the Buddhist Channel Ven. Boralande Vajiragnana Thero, Additional Secretary to the State Ministry of National Heritage, Performing Arts and Rural Art Promotion, Director General of the National Building Research Organization, Assistant Surveyor General of the Survey Department, senior military officers, architects, archaeologists, engineers, surveyors and Defence Ministry officials participated in this event.
