Island-wide Deegawapiya ‘Sacred Relics’ Expositions at Southern Province
- Sacred Omniscient Relics of Deegawapiya Stupa and the Crest-Gem arrive in the Southern province.
The relics unearthed from the Deegawapiya site during the excavations along with the Crest Gem embedded with 2800 precious stones arrived at the Kalutara Bodhi premises on Friday (Sep 22) to facilitate the devotees with an opportunity to pay their homage to the sacred relics.
The Sacred Omniscient Relics of Deegawapiya Stupa and the Crest-Gem will remain at the Kalutara temple on September 22 and 23 for public veneration. Subsequently, the articles will be displayed at several Buddhist places of worship covering Kalutara and the southern region of the Island for public veneration and allowing devotees to witness and pay their homage during this rare exposition.
The Deegawapiya Stupa and the premises have been damaged due to various invasions in the past. The restoration works are currently underway to bring it back to its former glory.
Devotees are invited to witness and worship the Sacred Omniscient Relics and Crest-Gem of the Deegawapiya Stupa. Further, the devotees have the opportunity to support this meritorious act by making financial contributions to the restoration project.
Arrangements have been made for the exposition of these revered articles at the Horana Vidyarathana Viharaya on September 24, Matugama Sri Sudarshanarama Maha Viharaya on 25, Pelawatta Wehihena Pirivena on 26, Elpitiya Ganegoda Raja Maha Viharaya on 27, Uragasmanhandiya Bodhimaluwa Viharaya on 28 and Aluthgama Wale Dewala Temple on 29 before they are taken to Aluthgama Kande Viharaya on 30 September.
