Deegawapiya Stupa Restoration Advances at a Steady Pace
Restoration work on the historic Deegawapiya Maha Stupa is progressing steadily with the dedicated labour contribution of the Sri Lanka Army and the Civil Security Forces, under the full supervision of the Ministry of Defence and the guidance of the Department of Archaeology.
Implemented in accordance with a well-structured and systematic plan over several years, the restoration programme has now reached a commendable stage of progress. Recognised as the largest stupa in the Eastern Province, the Deegawapiya Maha Stupa, upon completion, will rise to a height of 268 feet and 6 inches, restoring its historical and religious prominence.
The project seeks to preserve the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of the sacred site while reinstating its former grandeur. The ongoing restoration efforts are made possible through the generous financial contributions of local and overseas Buddhist devotees, complemented by the unwavering commitment and selfless service of armed forces personnel.
Consequently, the Deegawapiya sacred precinct is gradually regaining its spiritual dignity and cultural significance. Devotees who wish to contribute to this meritorious endeavour may obtain further information via the official website www.deegawapiya.lk, by email at deegawapiyaaruna@gmail.com, or by contacting 011 2430860–78.
