Army and CSD to produce bricks for Deegawapiya Stupa restoration
Since the Deegawapiya Stupa restoration project demands 30,000 tailor-made standard bricks per day, we have set up a system to produce bricks through the military and Civil Security Department (CSD), said Defence Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) today (26 Jan).
“Devotees who wish to contribute to the Stupa restoration are also invited to give a hand to the noble cause”, he said while mentioning about the bank account dedicatedly opened for the purposes.
Asserting the transparency of the donations to the bank account he said “Accounts details are now circulated through media”.
Gen. Gunaratne expressed these remarks during an inspection visit made to Deegawapiya Stupa premises in Ampara today.
The Defence Secretary pledged to set up the former glory of the Maha Stupa within a time span of three years during the session.
Ven. Maha Sanga including the Chief Prelate of Deegawapiya Temple Ven. Mahaoya Sobhitha thero, Public Security Ministry Secretary Maj. Gen. Jagath Alwis (Retd), Chief of Defence Staff and the Army Commander Gen. Shavendra Silva, Ampara Government Agent D.M.L. Bandaranayaka Chief of National Intelligence Maj. Gen. Ruwan Kulathunga (Retd), Director General Civil Security Department Maj. Gen. Nandana Senadeera, Director General of Archaeology Prof. Anura Manatunga, Military Liaison Officer of Ministry of Defence Brig. Dinesh Nanayakkara, Director Military Intelligence Brig. Robin Jayasuriya, Architects, Archaeologists, Engineers and Surveyors were also present during the visit.
