Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), assumed as the new Author of Deegawapiya Aruna Trust and First Trustee.
 
Defence Secretary took up this important undertaking effective from September 23, 2024. The Deegawapiya Stupa restoration project is funded by the “Deegawapiya Aruna Trust”, which is generously supported by local and foreign philanthropists and devotees.

The renovation of Deegawapiya Stupa, a much-needed national endeavour, is in the process under the supervision of the Defence Ministry, Department of Archaeology and relevant state institutions with the labour provided by Tri Forces and Civil Defence Force, while preserving the ancient value and former glory of the respective sacred sites.
